Sudden cardiac death remains an unresolved public health crisis. A victims chance of survival dramatically improves through early cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and early defibrillation with the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).  To be effective, defibrillation must be used in the first few minutes following cardiac arrest.  The implementation of state public access defibrillation (PAD) laws and the Food and Drug Admisinstrations (FDA) approval of "home use" AEDs have made this important care step available to many rescuers in many places, including the following

  • Airports and airplanes
  • Stadiums
  • Health clubs
  • Golf courses
  • Schools
  • Government buildings
  • Offices
  • Homes
